To ensure the safety of our community and compliance with New Zealand laws and courier regulations, the following items are strictly prohibited from being sent via the Kiwibuyers ‘Book a Courier’ service or through any sale on our platform.

By using Kiwibuyers, you agree not to list, ship, or arrange the delivery of any of the following items:

Dang erous Goods (Hazardous Materials)

These include items classified as hazardous under the Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods 2005 or equivalent international regulations:

  • Explosives (e.g. fireworks, ammunition)
  • Flammable liquids or solids (e.g. fuel, paint thinner, matches)
  • Toxic substances (e.g. pesticides, industrial chemicals)
  • Compressed gases (e.g. butane, propane, scuba tanks)
  • Corrosive substances (e.g. batteries, bleach, acid)
  • Radioactive materials
  • Dry ice

Note: Many of these items require specialist handling and cannot be sent through standard courier services.

Prohibited or Restricted by Law

You must not send or list items that are illegal under New Zealand law or breach international import/export controls, including:

  • Firearms, firearm parts, ammunition, replica or toy guns
  • Controlled drugs or drug paraphernalia
  • Counterfeit items or pirated media
  • Stolen property or items suspected to be stolen
  • Obscene publications or materials promoting violence or hate
  • Endangered wildlife or parts (e.g. ivory, whalebone)

Prohibited by Courier Providers

Courier companies have additional restrictions that you must follow when using the Kiwibuyers ‘Book a Courier’ tool. Items commonly restricted include:

  • Perishable goods (e.g. fresh food, frozen items)
  • Live animals or insects
  • Human remains or body parts
  • Cash, bullion, precious stones
  • Lottery tickets, passports, and other high-value documents
  • Perfumes, aerosols, and nail polish (due to flammability)

Fragile or High-Risk Items

While not always prohibited, sending the following items is at your own risk, and neither Kiwibuyers nor the courier may cover damage or loss:

  • Glassware, ceramics, or mirrors
  • High-value electronics (unless insured)
  • Artwork or antiques
  • Musical instruments
  • Collectibles or irreplaceable items

If you choose to ship these, we strongly recommend using appropriate packaging and purchasing additional insurance from the courier.

Responsibility & Consequences

Sending or attempting to send prohibited items may result in:

  • Refusal of service or cancellation of your booking
  • Item seizure by the courier or authorities
  • Fines, legal action, or account termination
  • Liability for damage caused to other parcels, vehicles, or people

Kiwibuyers reserves the right to share relevant information with courier providers or law enforcement agencies if a breach of this policy occurs.
